Katie Aylward

Katie is currently enrolled in her third and final year at Ohio State University for her MFA degree in dance with a focus in performance and technology. Before attending OSU, Aylward was an independent artist in western Massachusetts. Where she performed for Wire Monkey Dance Company and studied Capoeira. Throughout her time at OSU, Aylward has been exploring with dance for camera, filming and editing dance documentation, and choreography for intermedia performances.

Zachariah Baird

Zachariah is a 29 year old comedian who loves Columbus, Ohio. He gets his inspiration from angst, water fowl, and Emily Dickinson poetry. He also grew up on a pumpkin farm in Kentucky, and loves to dance. He is absurd, and struggles to be serious. He would like to thank Andy Gallagher for dancing strangely with him, as a friend, at party for many years and Buster Keaton. And then, the future.

Erin Blunt

Erin, originally from Nashville, TN, is currently a 4th year student at The Ohio State University working towards her B.F.A in Dance.  In addition to her training at The Ohio State University, she has attended several summer intensives such as Peridance Summer Intensive and Conduit Summer Intensive. As she continues her education, her interests lie within performance, dance and disabilities, and dance education.

Lindsay Caddle LaPointe

Lindsay is a dancer, teacher, videographer and video editor.  She received her BA in Dance/Performance from Roger Williams University and her MFA in dance and technology from The Ohio State University’s dance department.  In 2010 she started her own video production company, Linden Tree Productions that provides video support to dancers and artists. She has taught dance at The Ohio State University, Ohio University and Muskingum University in the styles of modern, ballet and hip hop. LaPointe is drawn to performing in site specific work such as Summer Sanctuary preformed in front of the Ohio Statehouse and Gravity’s Ripple II and III presented on the grounds of the Dublin Arts Council.  She continues creating her art in Columbus, OH and is an active member of They Might be Dancers.

Alyssa Carmona

Alyssa was born in Brooklyn, New York.  She’s 19 years young and in her second year of college at Columbus State.  Alyssa is planning to transfer to Columbia in Chicago next year and major in dance with a minor in early childhood.  She has been training in dance since she was five.  She has experience in ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, liturgical, tap, and pre pointe. Not only do I dance for myself, but I dance to be an inspiration to others.

Shih-Ming Li Chang

Shih-Ming, Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance at Wittenberg University, earned her BA in Dance at the University of Chinese Culture, Taiwan, and an MFA in Dance at Smith College. Chang has given lectures and demonstrations on Chinese dance and culture in numerous universities, festivals, and conferences abroad and in the U.S.A. Chang has served on the National Board of Directors of ACDFA; as vice president of OhioDance; and also was executive director for Weaving Pine, a non-profit organization promoting Chinese Culture and performing arts in Ohio. Her project on Chinese dance—a book/multimedia resource for educators that she created with her colleague Lynn Frederiksen—will be published by Wesleyan University Press in 2013.

Noelle Chun

Noelle’s performance, choreography and teaching has been presented across the Mid-Atlantic through her own independent work, with the improvisational trio Like You Mean It, and through site-specific events with Foreground Dance. Past projects have been supported by grants and fellowships from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and Ohio Arts Council. Noelle considers collaboration and improvisation to be at the base of every creative process, where movers and thinkers actively contribute and make direct decisions inside of the process that engender spontaneous, subtle, and ruminative works. She has served on faculty at The Ohio State University and Ohio Wesleyan University, teaching improvisation and technique courses, she is also a member of They Might Be Dancers and teaches classes at Feverhead. She holds a BA in Anthropology and Theatre Arts from Beloit College in Wisconsin, and an MFA in Dance from OSU.

Jane D’Angelo

Jane, the executive director of OhioDance, holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Northeastern University and a C.S.S.  in Administration and Management from Harvard University.  She has an extensive background in dance and dance education, both performing and teaching dance to children and adults.

Noah Demland

Noah is a percussionist, composer, and music educator. With influences that are equal parts Lou Harrison and Kim Deal, his music explores the territory between his classical percussion training and his roots in the d.i.y. music and zine community. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music at The Ohio State University, and has studied composition with Anders Åstrand in Stockholm, Sweden.  He is currently in his eighth year of teaching music at The Arts and College Preparatory Academy. Tonya Ferguson

Tonya is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.  While earning her bachelors degree as an Exercise Physiologist at The Ohio State University, she began her formal dance training in Modern technique and has had the opportunity to partake in Master classes from Alvin-Ailey II,  Tonya has also been afforded the opportunity to be a principal dancer for Judah Performing Arts Company and a guest artist for Nomel Ministries Christian Performing Arts Company.  She currently resides I Columbus, Oh, where she continues her dance studies.

J. Shannon Filmore

J. Shannon, born Columbus Ohio, has been dancing for 6 years. He is a 2006 graduate of Fort Hayes Performing Arts High School, where his passion for dance began. He has also studied at BalletMet Columbus, the Columbus Youth Ballet, with Alfred Dove, Shelly Steward, and under Hip Hop masters BHB and Dynesha. Soon after graduating high school he started to travel and train with some of the top hip hop choreographers Poppin’ Pete, Rhasposdy, Sean Bankhead, Chuck Maldando, and Jaquel Knight. He has even expanded from being a hip hop street dancer to be being trained in contemporary and ballet as well. He is a choreographer and dancer for Xclaim dance company as well as worked being a former member and representative I Am D.A.N.C.E. clothing/movement Inc.,J. Shannon currently teaches hip/hop at Richland Academy as well. J. Shannon Filmore is always looking for opportunities to expand his skills and become a better dancer/ choreographer/teacher.

Alexandria Flewellen

Alexandria was born in Columbus, Oh and started dancing at the age of 7 with Mrs. Lorii Wallace.  She has been dancing ever since in different dance groups, ministries, and productions.  Alexandria started dancing with Tapestry Performing Arts in February of 2011.  She attends the performing arts high school and her goal is to study dance in NYC.

Jeff Fouch

Jeff, an Ohio native from Zanesville, has been a resident artist of Columbus for over a decade.  Upon receiving his MFA from OSU in 2007, Jeff continued to work with Kristina Isabelle Dance and recently began developing his own work in tandem with Christeen Stridsberg as Heroic Urges Moving Arts.  Jeff also collaborates with fellow members of KID locally as the Columbus Moving Company.  In March, HUMA was awarded the Columbus Dance Theater Fellowship Award, and presented its first excerpt of a yearlong creative process entitled Living Rooms at the Garden Theater’s Green Room in April.  Jeff recently appeared as Bobby in Short North Stage’s Cabaret.

Jeff Fouch & Christeen Stridsberg: HUMA

Heroic Urges Moving Arts is a multi-dimensional performance duo comprised by colleagues Jeff Fouch & Christeen Stridsberg.  HUMA made their Columbus debut in 2011 at Art al Fresco with the first inception of their “Living Rooms” series.  Gigs at the Independents Day Festival, Feverhead, and The Garden Theatre unveiled new installments to the series, culminating in March’s induction into Columbus Dance Theater’s Fellowship Concert, followed by their featured staging    of “Living Rooms Predux” at Short North Stage’s Green Room in April.  HUMA incorporates other local talent into their work and continues to participate in youth education programs.  Fouch & Stridsberg free-write as part of their regular, generative process, and employ video and photography to capture and mine improvised material. HUMA is thrilled to be a part of the Columbus arts community and to offer this next, curious chapter of “Living Rooms”!

Tylon Fuller

Tylon, a Columbus OH native, has been dancing since age 15.  With dreams larger than his eyes can see, he is driven by ambitions.  Longing to study with some of the world’s greatest artists, he desires to learn and grow into a world-remowned dancer.  He also is a Vocal Performance & Communications: Broadcast Media double major at Central State University.  He believes that education is very important and plays a great role in any attainment of success.

Sarah Gange

Sarah began her dancing career in the basement of OSU’s dance department under the mentorship of tap dancer Jenai Cutcher.  Shortly after, she began the ongoing pursuit of rallying together the tap dancers of Columbus.  More recently, Sarah spent has her time learning other dance forms, such as breaking, hip hop, ballet and modern, in order to further explore rhythm in movement.

Nicole currently wears the following hats: PERFORMER, CHOREOGRAPHER, TEACHER and perpetual STUDENT of dance, Coordinator of Locality 2012, Administrator/Manager for Bebe Miller Company, Co-Operator and Teacher at FeverHead, Member of They Might Be Dancers, Resident Artist at Cassady Elementary for VSA Ohio, Teacher at Columbus Dance Theatre, Giver of Body and Energy Work to humans and animals. She is also a daughter, an only child, a mom to two furbabies, a friend, a lover, a confidante, a helper, a seeker… she is all of these things, but they do not make her up.

Gina Gasbarro

Gina has performed with Columbus Dance Ensemble, OSU, Opera Columbus and Zivili.  She has served on the boards of Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus and Columbus Dance Theatre.  Currently Gina is dancing/costuming for Selo and enjoying the energy of Locality 2012!

Tina Gehres

My dance interests and expertise are in recreational, ethnic and vernacular dance.  I have studied with ethnic teachers of Eastern and Western Europe, US and Canada and since 1986, vintage teachers including Richard Powers, Elizabeth Aldrich, Michelle Nadel of Paris, Frantisek Bonus of Prague. I am the artistic director of Times Past Vintage Dancers of Columbus, with a repertoire from 1790 to 1930s. I am also a choreographer and performer for Selo, a Croatian ensemble of music and dance, and a member of Mixed Bag International Folk Dance Music and Vatra Ziva a Balkan music band. My mission is to share the joy and excitement of dance to all ages and abilities through international folk and vintage dance by including authentic dances, music, costumes, and dance commentary.

Ryan Hair

Ryan began dancing in 1999.  While in high school, he was active with Eastmoor Academy’s theater department and performed for the Columbus School for Girls.  He has long loved working with Alfred Dove and Gamal Brown; and he always has known he wanted to be a dancer.

Eve Hermann

Eve studied visual and literary art at Indiana University. She is a trained bodyworker, practicing craniosacral therapy at Vitality in Grandview. Currently, her interests lead her to explore presence practices through breath, movement, and attention. She lives life as an experiment. Mistakes are part of the process.

Molly Hogan

Molly, a native of Columbus, earned her BFA with a distinction in Dance from The Ohio State University in 2007.  While at OSU, Molly performed in pieces choreographed by Professors Susan Hadley and Michael Kelly Bruce as well as local choreographers Nicole Cafera (2005-2009), Kristina Isabelle (HighJinks- 2006), Aaron Kint (BacKspace- 2007) and Sarah Hixon (Hixon Dance- 2008-2011). Molly currently is on faculty at the New Albany Ballet Company.  She is very excited to be part of celebrating Columbus’ Bicentennial by taking part in the Locality 2012 where you can see her perform in pieces by Jessica Tupa and Lindsay Caddle LaPointe.

Kristina, artistic director of Kristina Isabelle Dance Company, recently received the Chicago DanceMakers Forum Lab Artist award for 2012. She has her MFA from The Ohio State University and her BFA from The Juilliard School. She has danced with Bebe Miller, Stephen Petronio, and Jordan Fuchs.   Kristina Isabelle Dance Company will perform at the McConnell Arts Center Dec. 13-14, 2012.

Kim Keels

Kim was born in the small town of Circleville, OH.  It wasn’t until she moved to Columbus that she became involved in dance through her church at the age of 27.  At that time she knew she was called to minister through dance.  Since then Kim has broadened her skills in Modern, African, Contemporary, and Ballet under the leadership of Lorii Wallace and has danced in various productions.  Kim has been married for 26 years, has two children, and looks forward to continuing her dance experience through Tapestry Performing Arts.

David Jon Krohn
Choreographer/Dancer: Working Together
David’s Dance Degree is from Bennington College.  He did graduate work in directing at Columbia University.  He performed with Jose Limon, Anna Sokolow and the NY Shakespeare Festival.  He co-created the site-specific performances “Industrial Strength” and “Inventing America”  with writer Phil Boiarski.  He’s performed  as an actor, dancer and  mime throughout the USA, Canada and Scandinavia.  He co-founded several Columbus-based movement companies including The Moving Arts Company, Auk, The New Mime Troupe and The Company of Artists.  He has been working on Autobiography for many years and hopes to eventually assemble it into an evening-length performance.

Derek Lee

This is Derek Lee’s first year with Tapestry Performing Arts.  He has been dancing since he was 5 years old, but started to seriously train while he was in college at The Ohio State University.  Derek has studied Hip-Hop, Modern, Jazz, and West African dance styles.

Lori A. Lindsey
Dancer: Working Together
Lori, a native of Columbus, Ohio, began studying ballet and tap with Julia Blackford and Jeri Pinnell Dance Studios at the age four. She quickly developed a love of dance and expanded her studies to include other genres of dance including modern, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop. Ms. Lindsey has performed with a number of dance teams and companies including Kentucky State University K-Rette Dance Team, Two Left Feet Dance Company, Nomel Inspirational Dance Theatre, and Judah Performing Arts Center. In addition, Ms. Lindsey has choreographed and performed many pieces for various schools, churches, dance festivals, community events, and corporations in Columbus, Ohio and Los Angeles, California metro areas. Ms. Lindsey hopes to excite and engage audiences by defining characters, emotions, and artistic visions through dance.

Leigh Lotocki

Leigh is a Columbus-based dancer and choreographer. She received her BFA in Dance from The Ohio State University in 2010. In addition to working with her duet partner Noelle Chun, she has performed with and created work in association with Available Light Theatre, Feverhead and They Might Be Dancers. This summer, Leigh attended the Gaga Dance Intensive in Tel Aviv, Israel, with Batsheva Dance Company. She also serves as the Communications Coordinator at Urban Arts Space.

CoCo Loupe

CoCo holds a BFA & MFA in Dance/Choreography. In the past 20 years she has been an ADF freak-a-zoid, and indie dance group dreamer, pick-up performer and a university educator.  She lives in Columbus, OH, works on websites everyday and makes dances when she can.  She is a member of CAW: creative arts of women and is a co-operator of a dance/arts space in Columbus, OH called FEVERHEAD. This year, CoCo was awarded an Individual Excellence Award for Choreography for 2012 by the Ohio Arts Council (OAC).

Keith Marshall

Keith began acting and dancing on Columbus’s local scene in 1998.  Subsequently, he has performed as an acrobat at Busch Gardens and as a dancer/tumbler for the New York Knicks. He also is a member of the STREB Action Theatre Company in New York City.  Keith currently is pursuing a bachelor’s degree of fine arts and business.

Morgan McFarlan
Dancer: Working Together
Morgan is a native of Oak Harbor, OH and began her dance training at Class “A” Studio of Performing Arts. Under the direction of Mrs. Violet Fox and Ms. Paula Fox-Ferguson, she studied ballet, jazz, tap, and Irish step dancing for 14 years. She performed with the studio at many venues, including many Class “A” Studio Nutcracker productions. Morgan graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wright State University. There she performed in many student, faculty, and guest artist works. She also choregraphed for the main stage production of As You Like It. ht with After graduation, she relocated to Florida and taught with Dance Etc Studio, giving classes in modern, ballet, jazz and tap. Upon returning to Ohio, Morgan performed with Hixon Dance Company and began teaching for JAZ Dance & More studio, where she continues to give class in ballet, tap, tumbling, jazz, modern, and musical theater.

Fernanda MacDonald

Fernanda began dancing at age 7 at Edye Cooks dance studio and finished in the Senior Company. She studied Modern Dance and Media Arts with a focus on the merging of modern dance and media technology as a layered medium for performance and artist process at The Ohio State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree.  She was granted the privilege to choreograph and perform a formal modern dance show through the Ohio State University Department of Dance. “Shifting the Spectrum” was performed at the Sullivant Hall Theater in 2005.   She has performed and choreographed for the Minor Threat Company, performed for Susan Bradford the sister West African dances of the Cucu and the Jola and performed repertoire for the Alfred Dove Company at the OSU.  Fernanda is the creator of ‘Dancersdust’, a dance company performing works integrating science, astrology, media and modern dance. She organized and performed a structured improv entitled nucleosynthesis for the Independence Day Fest 2011, and also choreographed, set, and structured an improvisation with the Alwood Sisters for a gallery performance, fall 2011.

Kelsey Morozow

Kelsey is a new resident in the Columbus area, being raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She started her dance training with ballet in a small studio in the Las Vegas Valley. Kelsey moved on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Kelsey has trained with Louis Kavouras, Margot Mink Colbert, Ernesta Corvino, and Richard Havey among many others.

Karen Mozingo

Karen has worked with a variety of choreographers including CoCo Loupe, Lizbeth Goodman, Jan Van Dyke, Susan Van Pelt, and Kathryn Karipides. She has performed and presented work in New York, Massachusetts, Ohio, North Carolina, and Germany. Karen is a full-time lecturer in theatre at The Ohio State University.

Barbara Nolasco

Barbara was born and raised in NYC where she trained at the Harlem School of the Arts.  She studied Modern, Ballet, and West African dance styles.  In 2004, Barbara moved to Columbus, OH and by 2009 she became a member of Tapestry Performing Arts where she has been able to give back to the community using her gifts.

Lindsay Nova
Dancer: Capturing the Garden
Lindsay is a Florida native transplanted to Columbus via Ohio University, where she earned her BFA in Dance. She spent several years studying, performing, and choreographing site-specific dance work and currently teaches at Dublin Dance Centre and Gymnastics. Additionally, Nova is a well-known circus-style entertainer with such specialties as hula hoop, fire, aerial dancing, and stilt walking, delighting crowds throughout the region. She has worked with Kristina Isabelle, Sarah Hixon, Anna Sullivan, and Jessica Tupa in addition to her own company Hyperspace Fire Arts. She credits her ability to stay sane through her daily yoga practice, which she also teaches throughout Columbus.

Sharee Parker

Sharee has danced for 16 years and has had the opportunity to be a part of various dance teams, ministries, and productions.  While obtaining her undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University, Sharee studied dance as a minor.  Currently Sharee is studying to obtain her PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Capella University and works as a Human Resource professional.  Sharee continues her passion and love for dance with Tapestry Performing Arts where she has been a member since 2009.

Laura Puscas

Laura is a modern dancer trained in Hawkins technique by Todd Weeks and Jennifer Reilly of St. Louis’s MADCO. While at the University of Notre Dame, Laura studied composition & improvisation and completed a certificate in dance from Saint Mary’s College. For four years, Laura worked as an initiator for the art of dance at Notre Dame, campaigning at all levels for dance education, from helping students enroll in dance courses to dialog with the registrar and university president. In 2010, Laura founded Notre Dame’s only modern dance company, Notre Dame TransPose Dance Collective. As president and director, Laura produced two full-length walk-through performances: Dante’s Inferno: A Dance Experience and Digitize. In its first year, TransPose’s unique immersive dance style gained recognition across campus, and TransPose was awarded the 2010-2011 Performing Arts Division Club of the Year. Mrs. Puscas is also an experienced arts administrator with a degree in marketing from Mendoza College of Business.

Jessie Ramsay

Jessie was introduced to Modern Dance her senior year of high school, and falling in love it, she continued her exploration of Modern, Hip Hop, and other forms of dance during her undergraduate career at The Ohio State University. In addition to the joy and stress relief she found in her investigation of energy and movement, she also developed a deeper connection with the anatomical and kinesthetic aspects of her own body that gave her a unique perspective in her pre-medical studies. Locality has provided Jessie the opportunity to continue dancing while applying to medical school, assisting with research in radiation oncology at The James Cancer Center, and teaching organic chemistry at The Ohio State University.

 

Rebecca Simms-Gatewood

Rebecca, born and raised in Columbus, OH, started dancing at the age of 8.  She studied Ballet, Tap, modern, and Jazz at Columbus Youth Ballet, Ft. Hayes Career Center, BalletMet, and Footsteps on Wings.  She has also taught dance since the age of 12.  Rebecca joined Tapestry Performing Arts in July of 2011 to continue her passion and purpose.

Quianna L Simpson

A Columbus native, Quianna has danced with Thiossane Institute, steadily, since 2006. She began studying and performing traditional West African dance at age 7 under the tutelage of Suzan Bradford-Kounta. While away at college she groomed her modern and jazz technique with the Norfolk State University’s Dance Theater and “Hot Ice” Spartan Band dance line. At NSU she very much enjoyed attending the dance competitions and conferences, like Black College Dance Exchange, and has made it her duty to continue studying by attending dance conferences throughout the U.S. After graduating she returned home to rejoin Thiossane Institute. She also founded the “Fiery Ice” Dance Team at FCI Academy and enjoys returning to her high school alma mater and assists the East High School “Tigerettes” with choreography. Most notable she is the Asst. Director of Thiossane’s Junior Company, Program Director, principle dancer, and instructor for Thiossane Institute; where she teaches children’s class, and outreach programs with Columbus Public Schools.

Jessica Tupa

Jessica earned her BFA from The Ohio State University Department of Dance and has spent the last decade as an active member in the Columbus modern dance community as a dancer, teacher, choreographer, committee member, and wellness facilitator.  In 2007 she started her dance company, TUPACO Dance, in affiliation with her wellness class, TUPACO, a movement based practice that integrates core work, Yoga, dance, movement fundamentals, breathing, meditation and visualization, (www.tupaco.com).  Jessica also specializes in stilt dancing and mime. She believes that dance arts benefit people of all ages and abilities by bringing artistry, healing, enrichment and a sense of well-being to multiple aspects of their lives.  She is currently seeking a graduate degree in clinical counseling.

Sharon Udoh/Counterfeit Madison

Sharon has been described as a tornado, bulldozer, and the bastard child of James Brown and Kurt Cobain. While dancing is new for her, it’s probably the most natural thing that she does.

Ashley Walker

Ashley was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH.  She is a graduate of The Ohio State University and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Exercise Science at California University of Penn (CALU).  Ashley started dancing with New Salem Missionary Baptist Church’s dance ministry, Revelations and since then she has taken different dance classes before joining Tapestry Performing Arts in August of 2011.

Cierra Watson
Dancer: Grounded
Cierra was born and raised in Columbus, OH.  She began dancing at the very young age of 7 at her local church home Rhema Christian Center.  She then developed her skills of Ballet and Lyrical with Footsteps Dance Company for 6 years.  Now Cierra enjoys being lead choreographer at her church ICC and dancing with Tapestry Performing Arts where she dances Ballet, Lyrical, Modern, African, and Jazz.

Meghan Western

Meghan is a native Floridian who journeyed to Ohio for college and never left.  She received her BFA from the OSU Department of Dance and has been working steadily as a Columbus based movement artist for over a decade, including work with Columbus Movement Movement (CM2) and Locality 2012. She is very active in the local community theater scene as a choreographer and director for various ensembles, as well as Dublin Coffman High School.  She is especially inspired by the natural world, relationships with others, and a deep interest in why we move.
